According to a new study from Aviva Health Insurance Irish men spend around €2,395 and women €1,607.
Irish men are drinking an average of 15 alcohol units per week and women an average of nine. Although this is below the recommended weekly intake the results of this study are concerning and drinkers who normally drink at the top end of the recommended levels are known to damage their health.
There are many regional differences shown in the findings but people living in the counties of Louth and Dublin definitely drink the most. The healthier areas of Kerry, Roscommon and Tipperary show the lowest levels of alcohol intake.
Another worrying trend came out earlier this year as Aviva produced statistics on smoking. It showed that women are now smoking twice as much as men in Ireland.
