The latest study from the BMA Scotland warns that alcohol misuse is too high and that the next Scottish Parliament should make this topic a major issue for debate.
Too many Scots are drinking above the average and 6% of all GP consultations are alcohol related costing the country millions each year.
A spokes person for the BMA Scotland said, "Those who suffer from alcohol-related health problems are not just alcoholics or heavy binge drinkers.
"By regularly drinking over and above recommended limits, a significant proportion of the adult population is at risk of experiencing health problems that are linked to the alcohol they consume, whether it is high blood pressure, breast cancer or even domestic abuse."
The BMA’s findings are backed by other health organisations and state that on average 98 people are taken to hospital with alcohol related problems.
