Prolific Stroud Green drug dealers jailed
DRUG dealers whose lucrative business was damaging the community in and around Stroud Green have been jailed.
Darren Pryce, 26, and Christopher Jay, 46, of Finsbury Park, were put under surveillance by Islington Police following complaints from neighbours.
Pryce, of Quill Street, was jailed for four years after pleading guilty to 20 counts of selling Class A drugs and 18 counts of drug possession.
He was also given a five-year antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) banning him from Quill Street and the Upper Tollington area of Haringey, when he appeared at Blackfriars Crown Court on Friday.
Jay, of Woodstock Road, was jailed for three years and two months after admitting to four counts of supplying Class A drugs.
Police Constable Neal Williams, of Islington's Highbury West Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "Pryce and Jay were arrested as a result of community concerns we received about drug dealing in the area. We listened and we delivered.
"Their sentence will have a significant impact on the community."
The convictions are part of Islington police's war on the drugs trade and were welcomed by Sergeant Derek Wright of its proactive crime squad.
He said: "Pryce's sentence and subsequent ASBO must serve as a deterrent to other criminals and should reassure the local community that police in Islington are determined to work with the local community to tackle the illegal drugs trade.
"The ASBO will have a significant effect on his life but more importantly, locals can be assured that this prolific drugs dealer is off the streets."
