£3.5million drugs haul nets a 20 year jail sentence

The leader of a gang who managed to get 14kg of cocaine into the country was jailed yesterday.  

The gang used a light aircraft to smuggle the drugs inot the country through a samll airfield on Anglesey in North Wales.  The haul started its journey in northern France and was stashed inside a private plane owned by David Watson from Prestwich.

The Judge sentenced Mr. Watson, a pub landlord, to 20 years for conspiring to smuggle class-A drugs into the country.  Judge William George said, “You were always in the background controlling matters.” 

Other members of the gang, Mathew Lockwood, Michael Cahillane, Richard McArthur were all sentenced to between six and sixteen years.
