Mitch Winehouse calls for review of waiting times at NHS rehabilitation centres

At the funeral of Amy Winehouse yesterday, her father Mitch spoke of the two year wait for rehab on the NHS.

He spoke of how he hoped that Amy’s death would highlight the need for quicker access to drug and alcohol rehab services.

The chairman of the Homes Affairs Select Committee, Keith Vaz pledged to back Mr Winehouse’s campaign to highlight the situation and to investigate the amount of time it takes for addicts to get into a rehabilitation facility.

Mitch paid tribute to his daughter during the service and said that three years ago she had been clean of drugs and alcohol against all the predictions of the doctors.  He said that if an addict didn’t have money they would have to wait two years to get help.
