Lindsay Lohan attributes struggle with drug addiction, alcohol abuse to father

Teen actress-turned tabloid magnet, Lindsay Lohan recently told British newspaper The Sun that her father, Michael Lohan, is the main reason behind her recent, highly publicized battle with drug and alcohol addiction.

“I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad. I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like. It’s not something I ever want to do again.”

Lohan admitted that not only did her father introduce her to the illegal substances, he was the catalyst that made her turn to them when her life became too much for her to handle.

When Michael Lohan spoke out to the tabloids about his troubled relationship with Lindsay in 2007, she began to dabble heavily in cocaine and alcohol. Later that year, Lindsay was admitted into a drug rehabilitation program twice.

“When my father was going public, that’s when I hit rock bottom. I abused substances too much and it wasn’t the answer to my problems. People need to know that.”

Lindsay now says she is in a good place and her drug use is now a thing of the past.

“Now I’m in a place where I don’t need to use anything and I can feel emotions because I choose to. I learned from my mistakes and now I’m healthy and happier.”

Lindsay told The Sun that she plans on putting her past with drug addiction to good use.

“If I can teach others, especially teens, by sharing my experiences, then that’s what I will continue to do. I’ve made some dreadful mistakes but learned from them; that has probably saved my life.”
