Drug Rehab centre founder Betty Ford dies aged 93

Betty Ford founded a rehabilitation clinic in 1982 which has helped thousands of people struggling with addiction.

Mrs Ford, widow of ex-President Gerald Ford, was treated for drug and alcohol addiction herself in 1978 which led her to set up the famous Betty Ford Center in California.  The centre became most famous for treating stars such as Lindsay Lohan, Robert Downey Jr., Liza Minnelli and David Hasselhoff.

Many people have said over the years that the she saved their life, but she said that she only provided the means and that the clients themselves had worked hard to turn around their own lives.  She said, “That's a God-given gift as far as I'm concerned. I don't take any credit for providing anything that wasn't provided to me.”
