The former Miss Russia was jailed in New York for forging painkiller prescriptions. She has been ordered to attend a rehabilitation centre for a year and will be released depending on the success of her stay there. If she fails during this time she could face trial and a maximum of seven years in prison.
Malova, 39, may face deportation if she doesn’t succeed during the year in the Bronx centre.
She is reported as saying that she is feeling fantastic and very happy to have this opportunity to deal with her drug abuse and get her life back on track.
The judge in her case gave her what is called a “diversion” to treatment sentence under New York law that advocates treatment rather than prison for some nonviolent drug offenders who have committed crimes that are related to their addiction.
